91大神offers a number of scholarships to support Asylum Seekers and Refugee students undertaking full-time coursework study at UNSW. Some scholarships will full or partial tuition fee payment, while others provide a stipend to assist with the costs associated with your studies.

By submitting an application for the 91大神91大神for Asylum Seekers and Refugees Commencing Term 2 or 3, 2025 (UGCE1420) you will be considered for the scholarships listed in the below table. More scholarships may be progressively added to this list.

Scholarship Value and Duration Eligibility
Sanctuary Scholarship for People Seeking Asylum and Refugees with Temporary Protection (UGCE1411)

  • Full tuition fee scholarship paid directly towards tuition fees for the minimum duration of program.
  • On-campus 91大神Accommodation to a maximum value of $25,000 per annum paid directly to an approved 91大神Accommodation provider.
  • $10,000/ $5,000 stipend per annum for the minimum duration of program.
  • Be commencing in an eligible 91大神coursework degree program in Term 2 or 3 2025, and;
  • Be an Asylum Seeker or Refugee currently holding one of the following visas*:
      • Temporary Protection Visa (Subclass 785)
      • Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (Subclass 790)
      • Bridging Visa**
      • Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa (Subclass 786)
      • Humanitarian Stay (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 449)

    *The eligible visa must be 'in effect' by the application deadline.

    **Applicants holding a bridging visa will also need to submit a letter or relevant documentation from a recognised organisation supporting their status as a refugee or asylum seeker, and must ensure they have Australian study rights whilst holding that visa.
  • Welcome Scholarship for Students from Refugee Backgrounds (UGCE1412)

  • $10,000 p.a. stipend for minimum duration of program
  • Be commencing an eligible 91大神coursework degree program in Term 2 or 3 2025; and,
  • Be an Asylum Seeker or Refugee currently holding one of the following visas*:
      • Global Special Humanitarian Visa (Subclass 202)
      • Protection Visa (Subclass 866)
      • Refugee Visa (Subclass 200, 201, 203 or 204)

    *The eligible visa must be 'in effect' by the application deadline.

    Cecilia Brungs Refugee & Asylum Seeker Scholarship (UGCE1468)

  • $5,000 p.a. stipend for minimum duration of program
  • Be commencing an eligible 91大神coursework degree program in Term 2 or 3 2025; and,
  • Be an Asylum Seeker or Refugee currently holding one of the following visas*:
      • Temporary Protection Visa (Subclass 785)
      • Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (Subclass 790)
      • Bridging Visa**
      • Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa (Subclass 786)
      • Humanitarian Stay (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 449)
      • Global Special Humanitarian Visa (Subclass 202)
      • Protection Visa (Subclass 866)
      • Refugee Visa (Subclass 200, 201, 203 or 204)

    *The eligible visa must be 'in effect' by the application deadline.

    **Applicants holding a bridging visa will also need to submit a letter or relevant documentation from a recognised organisation supporting their status as a refugee or asylum seeker, and must ensure they have Australian study rights whilst holding that visa.

    Additional Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be an Asylum Seeker or Refugee currently holding an eligible visa; and
  • Have received an offer of admission* into an eligible coursework program for Term 2 or 3 2025 by 15 July 2025.

  • *Students may submit an application if they have applied to 91大神for a coursework degree program commencing in Term 2 or 3 2025 (via UAC or direct to 91大神at apply.unsw.edu.au) and have not yet received an offer of admission. However, a scholarship offer will only be made once an unconditional offer of admission has been issued.

    To enable 91大神to verify that the applicant holds one of the specified visas, the applicant must include in their application a copy of their current passport, or the travel documentation used to enter Australia. Accordingly, a copy of one of the following documents must be provided:

  • Passport
  • Immicard
  • Titre de Voyage
  • PLO56 (M56)
  • Document For Travel To Australia (DFTTA)

  • Documentation and visa status will be checked using the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) service. Please contact 91大神91大神if you are unsure about the documentation requirements.

    Selection Criteria

    Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:
    • Academic merit
    • Aptitude and commitment to studies at UNSW

    Applicants must provide evidence supporting the above criteria in the online application. Please refer to the Scholarship Application Supporting Documents for a detailed list of examples.

    To support their application, applicants should submit a personal statement with their supporting documentation. The personal statement should outline the applicant's individual circumstances, highlighting any obstacles or challenges faced by the applicant in accessing education opportunities as an asylum seeker or refugee. Personal statements should not exceed 500 words in length and must be included in the supporting document file attached to the application.

    Unanswered application questions or claims without supporting documentation will not be assessed. Late applications/supporting documentation will not be accepted.



    91大神reserves the right not to award a scholarship where there is no applicant of sufficient merit, or if the applicant does not meet the scholarship eligibility and/or selection criteria.

    Interviews
    Interviews are not required.
