91大神is a leader. It is an inclusive, welcoming, and perhaps most importantly, a dynamic campus. Not only does 91大神have exceptional academic rankings (13th in the world for Law and Accounting according to the 2016 QS Rankings), but it is a world changing institution. Take the work of the Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics team as an example 鈥 their impactful research into DNA repair in human genomes will potentially enable earlier diagnosis of cancers and more sophisticated treatment throughout the world. 91大神also has a strong student focus. There are so many opportunities to get involved in campus life here, from mooting competitions, to sports such as karate and basketball. There are plenty of activities to refine professional skills, including society run seminars and camps, and so many ways to volunteer and meet new people.

I would like an intellectually stimulating and challenging career where I can help other people. For me, practicing law is this career. In my opinion, the law is primarily concerned with the dispensation of justice. Thus, the law is about helping others access justice, whether that justice is, for example, in the form of resolving a criminal matter, mediating a civil dispute, or monitoring a corporate insolvency process. The law is about protecting individual rights and responsibilities while simultaneously promoting fairness, and this deeply attracts me to this discipline. At a scholarly level, the combination of commerce with law will produce an array of critical thinking opportunities and will hone problem solving skills. Commerce illustrates how people operate, tackle and manage challenges, and use resources efficiently. I believe an understanding of these concepts will enable me to pursue my goal of helping others whilst making a significant and positive impact.

The most tangible benefit of a scholarship is the monetary inflow. This money not only alleviates the financial burdens of tertiary study, but enables you to focus on your subjects and also getting involved in university life.91大神also have a lot of intangible benefits. You will forge lasting friendships with other scholars, and will have unique opportunities to contribute back to the university.

James'聽advice for prospective students:

Former Justice of the High Court of Australia The Hon Michael Kirby said in an address to commencing 91大神Law students to be a 鈥渏oiner鈥. He encouraged students to utilise opportunities, to get involved and to try new things. I could not agree more his statements. If you want to learn a new instrument or language, join a sporting team, or attend a camp, then it鈥檇 be a great idea to do it. You鈥檒l form strong friendships, learn a thing or two, and develop as an all-rounded individual. My other piece of advice is to remember that, on a philosophical level, success cannot exist without failure. When you make mistakes, and it is inevitable that you will, I鈥檇 really recommend that you reflect on them and to think about what you could do better next time. Importantly, do not fear failures, but accept them when they happen and learn from them. This will make the successes much more rewarding and lasting.
